Charlie Baughan
I have worked in education for more than 15 years, teaching across all primary year groups and leading on curriculum, safeguarding and staff development. I am proud to be Assistant Headteacher and Primary Lead at ALP Leicester, working with children, families and staff to ensure every learner feels safe, understood and able to succeed.
My belief in inclusive education began early in my career through working with adults with autism and coaching with Special Olympics. These experiences shaped my conviction that every person deserves to be known as an individual, supported with care and given meaningful opportunities to flourish.
I began my teaching career in Bristol before returning to Leicester, where I spent eight years teaching at the primary school I attended as a child. That experience allowed me to give something back to the community that shaped me and strengthened my belief in the lifelong impact that schools, strong relationships and high expectations can have.
Alongside my school roles, I have worked with the Leicester and Leicestershire Teaching School Hub, supporting Early Career Teachers and mentors across the region. This has reinforced my belief that investing in staff is one of the most powerful ways to improve children’s experiences and outcomes.
Joining ALP Leicester felt like a natural next step. I wanted to bring my experience in curriculum, teaching and staff development to a setting where learners are known deeply, support is carefully adapted and every child is encouraged to grow in confidence, independence and success.
I am passionate about languages, music, sport, outdoor learning, environmental education and active citizenship, and I believe these enrich learners’ confidence, curiosity and sense of belonging. I also enjoy the occasional round of golf, for my sins.
I am excited to work with the whole ALP Leicester community as we continue to build a provision where children are known well, relationships are strong, learning is ambitious and every learner is supported to flourish.
